Our nursery program serves children from 6 weeks old to 2 years old. We are play-based with an emphasis on outdoor exploration and the arts. Each day, parents and caregivers receive up-to-the-minute notifications on their child's activities while in our program. This includes reports on meals and snacks, bottles, diapering/toileting, nap times, and more. Pictures of your child are also sent to parents and caregivers throughout the day. At the end of each day, families are provided with a summary of their child's activities and experience. Our nursery program is fully licensed by the state of Vermont.
“As your children’s teachers, we work collaboratively together to ensure every child in our class receives warm, loving care and appropriate challenges and opportunities to support every aspect of their development. We continuously update our physical environment in the classroom with your children’s needs and abilities in mind. At Neighborhood, we strive to spend as much time outdoors as possible, in all weather. As teachers we always come prepared for whatever weather may come our way. We are always looking for ways to incorporate whatever learning opportunities and experiences we can with the natural world. We strive to develop relationships with families that support the growth of your children in all areas.”

Sample Daily Nursery Schedule
Morning Play Block (8:30 - 9:15) Children arrive in the classroom and are signed in by their families who help them put their belongings in their cubbies and greet their teachers. In warm weather, this sometimes occurs outside at the Nursery Playground. Children play outside or, on colder weather days, throughout the classroom: climbing the ramp, playing with toys, reading books together, and taking turns participating in a special project at the table each day. Children who are enrolled in before care arrive earlier.
Morning Meeting (9:15 - 9:30) The teachers and children gather together on the rug in the classroom to greet one another and sing songs together. Many of these songs are paired with movement, so there are a lot of jumping, clapping, spinning, and hand gestures to be learned. Sometimes morning meeting, or "circle time" happens outside.
Morning Snack (9:30 - 10:00) Children wash their hands and have snack as a whole group at the table. We have both indoor and outdoor table options depending on the weather. The children enjoy talking with one another and practicing self-help skills like drinking from an open cup, eating with spoons and forks, and asking for more with words and sign language. As each child finishes eating, a teacher helps him/her/them wash-up and changes his/her/their diaper or assists them in using the restroom.
Toddler Morning Outdoor Play and Infant Morning Nap (10:00 - 11:00) Toddlers head outside to the Nursery Playground where they slide, swing, play in the sandbox, take short walks in the woods, and play together. Infants stay indoors for a morning nap when needed, though they are always welcome to observe the play outside as well!
Lunch (11:00 - 11:30) Children follow the same eating and clean-up routine as during morning snack, including having their diapers changed or taking trips to the restroom.
Afternoon Nap, Play Block, and Snack (11:30 - 2:30) Children sleep in their cribs or on their mats, waking up on their own schedules. Teachers change each child's diaper or take them to the restroom as he/she/they wake up and give each child a snack. Children explore materials and activities in the classroom with the teachers.
Afternoon Outdoor Play (2:30 - 3:00) The whole group generally goes together to play in the Nursery Playground. Families pick-up from the playground promptly at 3:00. Children who are enrolled in after care stay later.
Please note that sleeping and eating times may vary for individual children as teachers always respond to the individual care giving needs of infants.
